A Collector’s Guide to Buying Original Art

Buying your first original painting can feel intimidating. It doesn’t need to be. Buy what moves you, then ask the right questions.

What to ask the artist

Ask about materials, the year the work was made and whether it is varnished. Every painting I sell comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.

Caring for oil paintings

Hang the work out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. Dust it gently with a soft, dry brush, and never use household cleaners.
